Hi there friend! Greetings from starting to get cold Dallas! I'll bet you might be in the storm's path too - especially since it's hitting such a large swath of the US. I hope you have plenty of water, blankets and yummy snacks "just in case." I expect this is what we will wake up to Sunday morning...who knows?! This has been a busy week. I've worked on Valentine's art to go into a local store for most of the week, and it's been so fun! Here are a few things I did. Have you noticed that when you are busy doing what you really enjoy, the time flies? And when you're just "putting in time" it drags? And yet, I often find myself putting off what I really want to do (and what brings me so much life and joy!) by doing other things I "should" be doing. --Checking email --Doing laundry --Cleaning out the fridge --Clearing off my desk...and the list goes on. Why on earth do I spend time focused on the easy and mundane when I could be creating and having fun, instead? Probably lots of reasons :) But one reason that comes to mind is the concept of "Resistance." Steven Pressfield, in his powerful little book, "The War of Art" talks all about Resistance. It's basically a force that rears it's ugly head any time you decide to do something meaningful. Here's one quote from the book I love: "Resistance is directly proportional to love. If you're feeling massive Resistance, the good news is, it means there's a tremendous love there too. If you didn't love the project that is terrifying you, you wouldn't feel anything. The opposite of love isn't hate; it's indifference. The more Resistance you experience, the more important your unmanifested art/project/enterprise is to you - and the more gratification you will feel when you finally do it." So for you today -- what is it that you know, deep in your heart, that you should be doing? What keeps calling to you? What idea/thought/dream keeps coming to mind over and over? Maybe this weekend is the time to dust off that idea and do something with it: --Journal for more clarity. --Make a call. --Do some research. --Just a baby step in the right direction. After all, the laundry will still be there tomorrow. :) Love you! Christy :) P.S. If you are interested in finding out more about my "Pop of Joy Original Art Club" hit reply and I'll send you more info. I'd love to share my art with you each month! xoxo C |

Hello sweet friend, As we move into the heart of Holy Week and experience Good Friday leading to Easter Sunday, I've had a few thoughts that I wanted to share. When Jesus was in the middle of his 3 years with the disciples, one thing I've noticed over and over is that he had an extraordinary amount of compassion for people. One story that comes to mind is just before he fed the 5,000 in Matthew 14:13-21. To give you some background, his cousin, John the Baptist, had just been killed...
Hello sweet friend! How about if I give you a peek into my real life? I feel crummy. My stomach hurts compliments of the antibiotics and pain medication I'm on for the pain in my mouth which is compliments of 2 new temporary crowns required as a result of my teenage ice chewing! Ugh. In addition, I'm not sleeping (see pain above) and there is a big family wedding this weekend and my entire family will be gathered...and you know...family. So my emotional state is a bit precarious. I took a...
Hi there sweet friend, This week I thought I'd share with you another article I wrote for the online magazine Living Our Best Life Project. It has not been published yet, so once again, you're getting the first look. I just thought the ideas might be helpful for you too. I know I enjoyed reminding myself as I was writing it. :) On other fronts, lots of art is happening here in Plano. Not quite as magical as making art in Arizona, but still, any day I can paint is a good day. And so far this...
